60″ Ceiling Fan Buying Guide

--------------------------------------------------------

Are you looking for a good ceiling fan for a large space like your great room, spacious living room or patio?

Choosing the right type of ceiling fan is very important, but it can also be tricky. I have created this blog to help point you in the right direction and ultimately find a fan that best suits your needs.

One of the first things you should consider when picking a ceiling fan is the size, the key being that the size of the fan should be proportional to the size of the room. If the fan is too large, it will seem imposing and make the room feel crowded, while it will seem out of place if it is too small.

Aside from the appearance, the size of the fan will also determine how well it can cool, and, if equipped with a reversible motor, heat the room. If the fan is too large, the room may feel too cold and if it is too small, it won’t be able to cool the room well enough, or not be able to provide any heating benefits even when it rotates in the opposite direction.

For great rooms and other spacious rooms, you should get a large ceiling fan like a 60″ ceiling fan. There are 70″ and 80″ ceiling fans, too, but a 60 inch span should be adequate, unless the room is really large, about 400 square feet or more, like a ballroom or conference room.

Keep in mind that the larger the ceiling fan, the slower it will spin and the more electricity it will consume, though this is still far beneath the energy consumption of an air conditioning unit. There is also a greater chance it will wobble.

For this reason, some recommend that you use two small ceiling fans for a large room instead of getting one big one. However, the latter is still a good choice, especially if you want to create an impact on the room or want something that will match its scale. If you choose one with a good motor and make sure the blades are well-balanced, you can reduce the chances of wobbling, too.

Aside from the size, there are other factors to consider. For example, if you are planning to install your ceiling fan in your patio or a large balcony, then the 60″ ceiling fan should also be approved for outdoor use. Outdoor ceiling fans are made of more durable materials since they are designed to withstand moisture and other weather elements.

You should also ask yourself if you want ceiling fans with lights. If you do, you shouldn’t have a problem finding these, since most ceiling fans are light adaptable or even come with a light kit.

Other factors to consider include the number of blades, the mounting options and of course, the design, since you should get a ceiling fan with the right finishing that matches or enhances the style of the room.
